Fit and fabricate steel structures, weldments, chute work, and other company products.
Check measurements and dimensions of each piece being worked on with measuring tapes, squares, or other devices.
Place each product component in its appropriate location as noted on the blueprints for proper alignment by using a hammer, pry bar, jack, wedge, or other tools
Mark spots to cut and use tools to manipulate steel or other materials by cutting, hammering, bending, or grinding the workpiece
Employ hand torches to heat materials to make them more flexible for bending or manipulation into the correct specification
Review blueprints, drawings, and other specification papers before starting work on a fabrication process and during the steps to ensure accurate completion
Maneuver fabrication machines, such as grinders, drill presses, brakes, shears, and torch to cut, bend, grind and adjust materials
Make templates for common work tasks when conducting repetitive motions for the fabrication process to ensure a set standard of work quality
Maintain fabricating equipment
Identify tools and methods needed to construct and assemble components
Evaluate equipment performance and implement necessary modifications
Fabricate and/or assemble structures made of steel
Uses and maintains equipment responsibly as to not compromise safety.
Comfortable with team work on large weldments
Personal hand tools are a requirement

Joins, fabricates, and repairs equipment, structures, and various types of metal objects (typically carbon, AR, or stainless steel) using an array of welding techniques such as flux core and hard wire welding.
Analyzes blueprints, plans, and drawings to determine measurements, plan layout, and sequence of welding assignments.
Good understanding of DWG reading and layouts to achieve a quality product
Participate in quality assurance discussions to assure items are built according to DWG details.
Determines the best equipment and welding method based on the specific job requirements.
Operates drill presses, grinders, power saws, and other hand tools.
Inspects and tests welded structures and surfaces to ensure acceptable/quality weld and to discover flaws.
Less than High School Education, or Highschool Education, or equivalent
Vocational or Fabrication School training, or proven on the job training experience
Minimum of 5-year experience in the metal fabrication field required
Working knowledge of fabrication equipment
Mechanical or Maintenance aptitude helpful
Welding knowledge/experience required
Must be able to read and interpret documents, such as blueprints, drawings, plans, policies, diagrams, tables, DWG related prints, etc.
Must have mathematical and numeric knowledge/skills related to the measuring and estimating of weights, heights, calculating numbers, solving spatial problems
Must have knowledge of materials and a strong understanding of metals and equipment
Must be organized and have good communication
Must have good dexterity

Installation, commissioning, training, inspections, repairs, and rebuilds of equipment.

Train customers and fellow employees on general maintenance and operation of the equipment.

Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues when dealing with application, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.

Lead internal crews and subcontractors in equipment and steel installations on Kemper Projects.

Maintain a safe working environment at all times.

Accurately and thoroughly document time, repairs, and parts used or needed on daily service reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Proven experience and skills including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, welding, diagnostic, and general maintenance. A minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience is desired.

Aptitude and interest in machinery and equipment.
-
Service or maintenance experience in quarry and material handling equipment, including rock crushers, screens, feeders, and conveyors.
-
Welding, torching, millwright and steel erection experience is desired.
-
Ability to read schematics and drawings and understand technical manuals and literature.

Ability to travel (including some overnights) with our crews as needed to customer locations. Typically, Monday through Friday, some weekend work as needed in emergency situations.

Ability to work overtime as needed to fulfill workload requirements.

Shop fabrication experience, while not required, is a benefit to assist Kemper Manufacturing based on project workload.

Must be safety oriented. Must be MSHA certified (training offered by KE) and able to work in a professional and safe manner at all times.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

Summary of Responsibilities:
A Field Service Technician supports our customer base by responding to service calls for routine and emergency service on material handling and process equipment – crushing, screening, washing, and conveying equipment. Work includes:
This position is a physical job that demands long hours, at times of standing, bending and kneeling. Heavy lifting sometimes required of up to 100 pounds. The position includes simple lifting and grasping, firm lifting and grasping, repetitive use of hands and use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Field Service Technicians must supply their own basic hand tools. Specialty or heavy-duty items will be supplied by Kemper.
Qualifications:

Review new orders along with associated specifications and technical documents.

Manage small projects within Engineering from inception through completion ensuring all details are covered and requirements are met.

Prepare design calculations, 3D models, drawings, sketches, bills of materials, etc. for drafters and others to satisfy the requirements of orders and customer specifications.

Layout basic to complex structures incorporating various types of equipment.
-
Select purchased components and prepare purchase requisitions when applicable.
-
Develop complex design models utilizing AutoCAD 3D.
-
Schedule and/or attend onsite meetings with customer to discuss project objectives and goals.

Prepare layout approval drawings for customer approval.
-
Check design models prepared by other designers for completion and correctness.
-
Work with fabrication shop personnel to answer questions or solve problems encountered during the manufacturing process.

Work with installation crew personnel to answer questions or solve problems encountered during the installation process.

Visit customer's facility, when necessary, to obtain measurements of existing equipment and structures for interface of new equipment.

Perform other relevant duties as required.

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD 3D modeling, design, and 2D drawing creation.

Experience within the Bulk Material Handling Industry is strongly preferred but not required.

Experience with structural steel calculations & reinforced concrete.

Must have broad based machine knowledge with high mechanical aptitude.

Mechanical design experience with power transmission components such as electric motors, speed reducers, sheaves & v-belts, sprockets & chain, bushings & shafts, and bearings.

Experience with sizing and selecting hydraulic drives & motion systems beneficial but not required.

Shafting verification for bending and torsional applications.

Steel detailing experience with knowledge of AISC, AWS, OSHA, MSHA standards.
